This month’s Signs of the City takes us to Okemos, a growing community just outside Lansing known for its strong mix of local businesses, national brands, and steady development. With its proximity to Michigan State University and a constantly evolving commercial landscape, Okemos is a place where thoughtful, well-executed signage makes a real impact.

1. Meridian Township – Wayfinding
Locations across Okemos, MI
Meridian Township partnered with Johnson Sign Co. to create a community-wide signage program that enhances navigation, visibility, and the overall experience for residents and visitors. The project included 56 custom signs throughout the township, from welcoming gateway entrances and park signage to wayfinding and monument signs, all designed to create a more connected and recognizable community identity. 2. Quality Dairy – Wall Letters & Pylon Sign
W Grande River Ave. Okemos, MI
For this Quality Dairy location, we completed a full exterior signage refresh to give the store a cleaner, brighter, and more welcoming appearance. The project included updated illuminated branding, storefront signage, lighting, and a new pylon sign to improve visibility for customers. In addition to this location, our team has also completed signage and service work for several other Quality Dairy stores throughout the surrounding communities, helping maintain a consistent look across the brand.
3. GymKind Academy – Wall Letters
W Grand River Rd. Okemos, MI
For this project, we fabricated and installed custom interior and exterior channel letter signage designed to enhance visibility and create a welcoming presence for students and families. The exterior raceway-mounted letters provide strong visibility above the main entrance, while the interior flush-mounted channel letters above the mall-facing entrance deliver a clean, polished appearance inside the shopping center. The finished signage reflects GymKind Academy’s fun, inclusive, and family-friendly environment for athletes of all ages and skill levels.
4. Marathon – High-Rise Pylon Sign
Okemos Rd. Okemos, MI
Towering 100 feet above the roadway, this 11′ x 14′ Marathon hi-rise cabinet sign makes an unmistakable impact. Our team was brought in by a partnering sign company to complete the high-elevation installation, safely mounting the massive flex face sign onto an existing pole structure using specialized equipment and experienced installers. The finished display delivers exceptional visibility and stands out as a landmark presence for passing traffic.
5. Wheat Jewelers – Vinyl Graphics, Interior & Exterior Wall Letters
Woods Edge Rd. Okemos, MI
When Wheat Jewelers relocated to their new space, our team helped bring the brand to life with updated interior and exterior signage throughout the location. The project included custom wall lettering, exterior branding, and vinyl graphics designed to create a polished and welcoming experience for customers. As a well-known jeweler in the area, the updated signage helps reinforce Wheat Jewelers’ strong local presence while complementing the look and feel of their new showroom.
