The Challenge
Established in 1948, Camp Dearborn is a 626-acre recreational retreat in Milford, Michigan, offering a wide variety of amenities and attractions for campers and visitors. From rustic and resort cabins to tent and RV camping, the property features a half-mile sandy beach, swimming and fishing lakes, athletic fields, tennis courts, picnic areas, a concession stand, and a 27-hole championship golf course.
With so many destinations spread across the expansive property, guests needed a more intuitive way to navigate the campground and locate key amenities. Camp Dearborn sought a wayfinding solution that would improve the visitor experience while complementing the natural character of the park.
The Solution
Johnson Sign partnered with Camp Dearborn to develop and implement a comprehensive wayfinding signage program throughout the property. Our team fabricated and installed more than 80 signs, including directional signs, identification signs, amenity markers, and informational signage designed to help visitors easily navigate the campground.
Each sign was strategically placed to improve visibility, guide guests to key destinations, and create a consistent wayfinding experience across the property. The signage was designed to be durable, easy to read, and visually aligned with Camp Dearborn’s outdoor environment.
The Result
The new wayfinding system has significantly improved navigation throughout Camp Dearborn’s 626-acre campus. Guests can more easily locate cabins, beaches, lakes, recreational facilities, picnic areas, and the championship golf course, allowing them to spend less time searching and more time enjoying their visit.
With more than 80 new signs installed throughout the campground, Camp Dearborn now offers a more welcoming, organized, and user-friendly experience for both first-time visitors and returning campers. The project reflects Camp Dearborn’s commitment to creating a more accessible, enjoyable, and visitor-friendly experience for all guests.
